GOLF AT SEA?

If your idea of afternoon "tee" on a cruise is a 370-yard par 4, then your ship has come in. In fact, several ships have come in. More and more cruise lines offer comprehensive golf programs ranging from guaranteed tee times as part of an optional shore excursion to complete golf packages at multiple ports of call.

And for your non-golfing companions, there's plenty to do ashore while you are lining up the perfect putt. Onboard many ships you will find professional golf instructors, golf simulators and organized tournaments. Of course, for the hackers and duffers among us, some vessels now sport realistic miniature golf courses, minus the windmills. Why not plan on putting a group of your fellow golfers together and tee off on some of the best courses in the world. You can even have special "hole-in-one" tournaments arranged as events or fund-raisers for your club or charity. Plan your golf cruise today.

Princess golf tours take you to some of the most-picturesque courses in the Caribbean. This comprehensive onboard Golf Program features: personalized instruction, quality equipment rentals, virtual golf simulators and guided golf excursions. Golf tours are offered in many Caribbean ports including Barbados, Grand Cayman, Jamaica, St. Lucia and St. Thomas. Whether you are a beginner golf enthusiast or a scratch player testing your skills, make this a golfing vacation to remember.

Royal Caribbean's Voyager-class ships have both a golf simulator and a miniature golf course. On Western Caribbean sailings on the Navigator of the Seas, the Mariner of the Seas and the Voyager of the Seas you can enjoy shore excursions at courses such as Sandals Golf & Country Club in Jamaica, the Links of Safehaven in Grand Cayman and the Cozumel Country Club in Cozumel.

Celebrity invites you to discover a vast array of golfing opportunities and guided golf excursions. In Bermuda, play at the Port Royal Golf Course or the Belmont Hills Golf Club. Various Celebrity vessels sail with a resident Golf Pro who provides personalized instruction, high quality equipment rental and guided golf excursions for players of all skill levels.

Norwegian Cruise Line Golf Hawaii offers the best courses in the world. Choose from their exclusive Golf Hawaii Packages in Hilo, Kona, Maui or Kauai or the ultimate golf experience, NCL's Golf Lovers Package. All packages include green fees, round-trip transportation between the pier and the golf course and a golf cart.

In Bermuda PGA professional Frank Thomas is onboard the Seven Seas Navigator. Highlights of the onboard Golf Program include: arrangements for Bermuda tee times (private clubs are available including one of Golf Magazine's top 100 courses in the world, The Mid Ocean Club), laser putting analysis, PGA swing lecture, private lessons and a Seven Seas Putting Championship.

Oceania’s cruise ship the Regatta shuns the Caribbean’s larger, more commercial ports, concentrating instead on the smaller more sophisticated gems of the Eastern Caribbean. Ports include La Romana, Dominican Republic; Virgin Gorda, B.V.I.; Basseterre, St. Kitts; Roseau, Dominica; Castries, St. Lucia; St. John’s, Antigua; and Gustavia, St. Barts.

All Crystal Cruises vessels offer a driving range/practice cage, a putting green and a putting contest. On most cruises a PGA Golf Pro is available. Golf pros host complimentary morning golf classes and golf clinics during the days at sea. On an individual basis, the ship's concierge can make golf arrangements at acclaimed golf courses in applicable ports of call.

Carnival Glory

The Mexican Riviera - a golfer's paradise. First stop, Puerto Vallarta and the El Tigre Golf & Country Club which plays over 7,000 yards and features numerous lakes and strategically placed bunkers. Then onto Estrella del Mar Golf Club and Beach Resort in Mazatlan designed on two miles of unspoiled coastline with the rolling surf visible from every hole. Finish up at the Cabo del Sol Desert Course in Cabo San Lucas, where the natural beauty of desert, mountain and ocean provides an ideal setting and some of the best terrain for golf anywhere in the world. Carnival does this itinerary in style!

The 793-passenger ms Prinsendam, a Holland America ship, offers a golf program on European sailings. On this sailing golf excursions can be arranged at championship 18-hole courses in these ports of call: Hamburg, Amsterdam, Antwerp, London (Dover), Honfleur, Dunmore East (Waterford), Bilbao, & Lisbon. For personalized instruction a resident golf professional is also onboard.
