Life is a
gift to you from your Creator. Your willingness
to embrace life and live it to the fullest is your gift
back.
In laughter clubs,
we emphasize six daily habits
for preventing hardening of the attitudes so you can embrace
life more fully. In addition to the physical act of laughing,
we focus on appreciation, flexibility, gratitude, kindness,
and forgiveness. Plus, there’s one more - weekends
are for CHOCOLATE!
“Weekends are
for chocolate” is about you giving
yourself permission to rest, relax and have fun.
It’s about finding ways to let playfulness back into
your life.
Recently, Buck
Campbell from the Summit Rotary Club celebrated
his 80th birthday. Buck is renowned for lighting up the
world with his sunny disposition and his kind and generous
ways. His birthday celebration
was a grand demonstration of “weekends are for chocolate”
and how to let playfulness back into life.
Buck started his
birthday celebration at the weekly Summit Rotary club meeting
where members and their guests were treated to Starmount
Country Club pie - big, thick pieces of ice cream
pie oozing with chocolate sauce. It was a jump-start on
Buck’s demonstration of “weekends are for chocolate.”
There’s more.
Buck’s-Birthday-Bash
on Saturday evening was a ramped up version of “weekends
are for chocolate!” More
than 200 people gathered at the Memorial Presbyterian Church
on McKnight Mill Road in Greensboro, North
Carolina to celebrate with Buck. The celebration was bursting
with playfulness.
After
a birthday buffet of pizza, submarine sandwiches and of
course, ice cream sundaes and banana splits, a mirth movement
was launched with a full laughter club session. If you’re
wondering what a laughter club session is, it’s
a place where people go to laugh their stress away, without
the use of jokes or humor, under the guidance
of a certified laughter leader. It’s a great place
to demonstrate “weekends are for chocolate!”
Smiles, giggles,
laughs, snorts, guffaws, hee-hee’s and ha-ha’s
filled the room during a stream of simulated laughter exercises.
A rousing finale, much like the thunderous sound at a fourth
of July fireworks extravaganza, shook the room as Buck was
honored with the Birthday Laugh (Happy
Birthday sung with Ha-Ha-, Hee-Hee-, Ho-Ho syllables)
and laughter club’s closing Three Cheers. This call-and-response
activity had everyone on their feet with exuberant smiles
on their faces while voicing a resounding “yes”
to life.
Saying
“yes” to life is definitely Buck’s gift
to his friends, family and colleagues. His
80th birthday party showed us all that playfulness is a
key to long-term happiness and health. Happy 80th Birthday
Buck. Thanks for helping us embrace life with your “ !”
invitation. |
