Blessed Are The Balanced

How balanced is your life? Try this. Find a piece of paper and draw a circle on it. Divide the circle into eight equal parts. Label each section as follows:

  • Physical Health
  • Work
  • Relationships
  • Emotional Health
  • Finances
  • Fun and Adventure
  • Spiritual Well-Being
  • Contributions to Others

Next, rate each section on a scale of 1 to 10 as to how satisfied or fulfilled you feel in each area, with “10” being the highest.

For most of us, there are areas in our lives that need improvement. We may be doing great in one area and really suffering in another. Balance is about addressing all eight areas. This can sound and feel very overwhelming! So relax, and take it one step at a time.

First, it’s important that we take responsibility for how our life is right now. I believe that we co-create our lives with God. I believe that God is always with us and is willing to help us, but we have to do our part.

It’s like the guy whose life was out of balance and whose yard was out of control. He had overgrown shrubs, weeds galore and grass too tall for his mower. He finally decided to do something about it.

After a weekend of very hard work he sat down on his front porch to admire his accomplishment. While he was enjoying the view, a jogger came jogging by. The jogger stopped to give the man a compliment by saying, “With the help of God, look at what you were able to do!” The man replied, “Oh, you must have seen it when God had it all by Himself.

What part of your life is “out of balance”? That’s the part that needs your attention. Sometimes our lives become so out of balance, we don’t know where to begin. We become paralyzed, and we do nothing. The key is to do something, no matter how small, to move towards your goal.

Although it’s important to think with the end in mind, don’t let the end in mind keep you from taking your first step. Action builds momentum. Your first step will lead to your second step, and your second to your third. Before you know it you will be amazing yourself. Trust me!

Go back to your circle. Take one section at a time and draw a curved line at the point of your satisfaction. If you gave yourself a “10”, your curved line will be on the edge of the circle. If you scored a “1”, it will be close to the center and a “5” would be midway in between.

Now, take a look at the “circle” you have co-created. That’s the shape of your life. Consider this your “Wheel of Life”. How bumpy is your ride? Would you like to create a smoother ride, a more balance life?

Decide on which section you want to work on first. What would it take to raise your score a few notches? Plan to take some kind of action today. I can hear your excuses already, because I say them too!

It isn’t by chance that you are reading this today. Remember, action builds momentum. When we co-create with God, we take action and we do our part.

I believe that we are meant to live balanced lives. The more we move towards balance, the more we feel our blessings. Be sure to get the help and support you need to have a balanced and blessed life!
