"The Most Wonderful Time of Year!"

With the holiday season now in full swing, we will hear these words expressed over and over again. For me the words take on a new meaning. Just one year ago this month, the North Carolina Journal for Women was officially launched to readers across the State. In terms of content direction, structure and vision the Journal made a great deal of progress this past year.

This time of year brings visions of sugarplums for young and old alike, and as for me, I envision a greater community spirit of women electronically connected across North Carolina. As the readership and the contributor's list continue to grow, I cannot begin to express to you how excited I am to connect you with other women across the State and to share their wonderful stories through the Journal. I am truly blessed and fortunate to be in this role as online publisher. This is the most wonderful time of the year. Happy Anniversary, NC Journal for Women!

Our featured North Carolinian this month is Liz Fentress, President, the North Carolina Community Foundation. The Foundation knows the true spirit of giving, even during non-holiday times. Through many charitble donations and contributions from individuals and corporations, Ms. Fentress and the Foundation strive to oversee and make the best use of those philanthropic funds throughout North Carolina's communities. What an awesome responsibility!

I hope each of you have a wonderful holiday season and wish you and your families much joy and happiness. Before I close, I'd like to share the following reminders with you:

  • remember to take time out for yourself this month,
  • remember those in need in your own local communities, and
  • remember the "true spirit of giving" - it's not "what's in the box."

See you next year,

Paula Monahan
