Laughter. It’s so much more than a physiological response to humor. Researchers are now saying laughter can bring balance to all the components of the immune system, which helps us fight off diseases.

Norman Cousins, renowned author of Anatomy of an Illness as Perceived by the Patient, had strong accolades for the power of laughter. He attributes much of his ability to recover completely from a life-threatening degenerative disease to laughter. “Laughter is an ambassador to all your good feelings and emotions – love, hope, faith, will to live, playfulness, humor.” He also believed that laughter is your ally in the health restoration process. “As your inner abilities develop, the outer conditions change also.”

Do you want to develop an intimate relationship between your happiness and health? Here are two suggestions. They’re guaranteed to help you experience joy and expand your inner spirit of laughter.

  • Take time to laugh out loud at least three times each day. Even if it’s forced at first, continuous laughter can help you release pent-up tension. You can tap into three energy centers using the vocal sounds of hee-hee-hee, ha-ha-ha, ho-ho-ho. Repeat several times a day and you’ll experience freedom from worrisome thoughts.
  • Each day, be mindful of paying compliments. Praise means to express approval, to glorify, to appraise as good. When you express approval of yourself and others, you are resurrecting your ability to notice the good in people and situations. Soon, you’ll be attracting even more good into your life.
Michael Hull and Claudia Cannady, Summit Rotarians

Recently, Summit Rotarians, their visitors and guests took time out to experience the mirth movement. There was hearty laughter with the warm-up chant, Airline Safety Laugh and much more. Here’s what Michael Hull, Summit Rotary Member, had to say, “I walked away from the program feeling that if we enjoyed our laughter more, we’d find more freedom in our souls.”

Start now to uplift your spirit and experience healthier living.
