The
end of February and beginning of March usually signal the promise
of forthcoming spring green. Or so one would think. But given the
odd weather we've experienced here in the Triangle area one would
think spring is several months away.
This month's cover woman is
Mayor Lillie McKoy of Maxton, North Carolina. Her
story is one you won't want to miss as what she has accomplished
in her hometown is inspiring, amazing and truly offers hope to many
others who aspire to break through traditional barriers.
Mayor McKoy, on behalf of
the North Carolina Journal for Women, I applaud your vision,
perseverance, and most of all, your fortitude to
overcome so many obstacles in your quest to better yourself
and your community. Thank you for the time you have given to the
Journal to tell your story. Best of luck to you, your staff, and
to the town of Maxton.
Also this month we welcome
new contributors to the Journal - Dr. John Pittman of the Carolina
Center for Integrative Medicine, Cara McLauchan, Sheyenne Kreamer,
and Janis Pettit.
This month's featured books
are "Brainwriting" and "A
Woman's Guide to Successful Negotiating," both very
interesting and worthwhile books. "Brainwriting," by Irene
Levitt, offers insight into the world of handwriting analysis
and how using it can help the reader learn more about herself and
others.
In "A Woman's
Guide to Successful Negotiating" co-authors, Lee and
Jessica Miller explore ten common mistakes women make when
negotiating.
Coming next month, you will
meet Sara Williams, the recruitment coordinator
of the Sister Study Project and a six-year breast cancer
survivor.
Until then, may the luck of
the Irish be with you.
