A friend recently said to me, “Marilyn, I’m finally able to look in the mirror each morning with compassion for myself.” Wow! What a powerful choice to begin the process of healing a wounded self-image.

Judgment of self and others is a choice. It’s choosing thought forms that label you and others as bad, terrible, or awful. It’s choosing a pathway to distress and despair, and the route is filled with an abundance of self-loathing and self-hatred.

My friend chose an alternative. He chose to shut down the judgment factory and begin to think kind thoughts toward himself. He chose to activate the Spirit of Love in his thought forms.

You can do it too. By choosing thoughts of kindness toward yourself, you begin to define yourself as wonderful and special. This sparks your optimism, hopefulness and creativity. In healing laughter programs, often referred to as a laughter club, we call this tapping into the inner spirit of laughter.

So, how about it? Are you willing to give yourself a break and look into your own eyes with compassion?

If so, your kind thoughts of self are guaranteed to show up in your actions. For example, you’ll find yourself giving people the benefit of the doubt and you’ll choose forgiveness rather than blame.

There’s one more benefit, too. You’ll soon find yourself laughing out loud just for the laugh of it! That has physical health benefits for you too. A recent study published by researchers from the University of Maryland School of Medicine shows that laughing out loud is a heart healthy choice. So, shut down the judgment factory and C’mon, Let’s Laugh!
