Operation School Bell®

of Raleigh

While haute couture will probably be the main topic of discussion at Coco Chanel’s birthday party in Paris on August 19, school uniforms and supplies will be the focus at a birthday party for Chanel in Raleigh that day. Assistance League® of Raleigh, a guild of National Assistance League®, will celebrate the fashion maven’s birthday with a luncheon at North Ridge Country Club in Raleigh. Cecilia Budd Grimes, author of What it Means to be Southern is the luncheon speaker. A silent auction will also be held during the event.

Proceeds from the luncheon and silent auction will benefit Operation School Bell®. Operation School Bell is one of the main philanthropic projects of the Assistance League of Raleigh. The guild has selected Hope Elementary Charter School in Raleigh as its first beneficiary. Assistance League of Raleigh members will provide tutoring to the school’s students and offer reading sessions to kindergarten and first grade classes. Funds raised at the Coco Chanel Birthday Party will be used to purchase school uniforms and to supply additional educational materials.

Tickets for the August 19 event are $45. You may call the Assistance League of Raleigh at (919) 623-7734. Tickets are also available at Montgomery Florist in Celebration Shopping Center, 7457 Six Forks Road, Raleigh. The luncheon will begin at 11:30 am.

The local guild is off to a fast-paced inaugural year, having received its charter from National Assistance League on June 22, and obtaining its nonprofit status on July 3. Other fundraising activities scheduled for the remainder of 2005 include a rummage sale in October and the renowned Festival of Trees at the Progress Energy Performing Arts Center in November. For more information on activities of the Assistance League of Raleigh or to find out more about becoming a member, contact Brenda Griffin, Guild President at (919) 623-7734.
