Another
Year
Another
year has almost come and gone. Our tree is up. Our lights
are strung. And in just a few short days our home
will be fully dressed for the "big day."
No, the "big day" isn't the arrival of St. Nick
bearing toys and gifts on the December 25th; it's
the arrival of family who will gather in our home to help
celebrate the season, the time, the day, and the moment
of being together as family.
It's
during these holiday times that I feel so very lucky to
be at home with family and all the creature comforts to
which I've become so accustomed. As
we welcome family members into our home and gather 'round
the table to enjoy the fruits of several hours of meal preparations,
let us not forget that many of our military friends, neighbors,
and coworkers will spend their holiday season away from
home and without the closeness of their families.
Whether deployed for clean-up down on the Bayou or for infrastructure
reconstruction efforts in Iraq, those who serve in North
Carolina's National Guard, hopefully will rest assured that
all efforts "back home" are made to assist their
families as needed, thanks to Captain Sherrell Murray, the
eight Family Assistance Centers across the state and all
of the support personnel in place to assist Guard families.
Captain
Murray is our featured North Carolinian this month.
What a job she has! As director
of the NC National Guard Family Readiness Program, Captain
Murray's cup runneth over as more Guardsmen continue to
be deployed in record numbers. Her dedication,
passion and commitment to the field, to the military and
to the families is commendable beyond words.
Captain
Murray, we salute you!
As the hustle and bustle of
holiday activities ramps up these next few weeks, I
would like to wish you and your family a wonderful and safe
holiday season.
