There’s a new kind of happy hour in Greensboro. Unlike many happy hours, you won’t be carded at the door. Everyone is welcome—children, adults, seniors. And it’s a soft touch on your pocketbook, too—there’s no fee. At this happy hour, everyone is invited to launch the weekend with a happy hour of laughing, “jest” for the sake of laughing.

Where can you find such a happy hour? It’s the Uplifting Spirit Laughter Club, an officially registered laughter club with the World Laughter Tour, sponsored by Unity in Greensboro. The club meets on the second and fourth Friday of every month from 7:00–8:00 PM.

What can you expect when you imbibe at Uplifting Spirit Laughter Club? You may experience some light headedness, not unlike what you might find at a traditional happy hour. However, the source of the lightheadedness is the result of deep breathing exercises that infuse your brain with its favorite food—oxygen.

Milkshake Laugh

One of the therapeutic laughter exercises you may experience is the “Milk Shake Laugh.” Club members hee-hee as they prepare their beverage, then laugh heartily with ha-ha-ha as they simulate drinking their beverage.

Ice Cube Down the Back

And just like at a traditional happy hour, there are ice cubes too, only they don’t clink in glasses. At Laughter Club, there’s an “Ice Cube Down the Back” laugh where laughter club members emit a series of hee-hee’s, ha-ha’s, ho-ho’s and gestures as they simulate getting the ice cube out of their shirt.

Are you feeling like you need to shake out a week’s worth of negative input? You’ll love Laughter Club’s “Negativity Shake Out.” You just have to experience this one. Words can’t describe it.

Argumentative Laugh

Oh, I must mention also. You may encounter a brouhaha (at a traditional happy hour they call this a “barroom brawl”). However, in Laughter Club, the “Argumentative Laugh” is filled with merry finger pointing and lots of hee-hee’s and ho-ho’s. Maybe this is another one you have to experience before you believe it.

If shaking out negative energy and getting “high” on oxygen seems to be at odds with your past happy hour experiences, that’s easy to understand. As I said earlier, Uplifting Spirit Laughter Club is a different kind of happy hour!

Are you ready to power up your weekend with a new kind of happy hour? I suggest laughing “jest” for the laugh of it at Uplifting Spirit Laughter Club. It’s free. It’s open to the public. Everyone is welcome. Visit www.unityingreensboro.org for details. C’mon, Let’s Laugh!
