Bathing Suits and Short Sleeves

Horrors! Is it that time of year again? Was there ever a time when the prospect of uncovering with the warmer weather didn’t send waves of panic through you?

Of course, some people just don’t care, and that’s fine too. Certainly, everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion of what is important. There are those who couldn’t care less what they wear, how manicured their lawn looks or how clean their car is. There are those that, even beyond the first impression of physical appearance, couldn’t care less if they are healthy and fit, if their lawn is full of noxious weeds, or if their car has had an oil change in recorded history. Whatever works for you is fine.

If you really couldn’t care less, then read no further, but if you would like to look and feel GREAT for the rest of your life, then read on. This is not complex and it works.

The “SECRET” for health and fitness is consistency with the program. Develop a sane, long-term approach to solving your problem issues and areas, and stick with it.

Any project has the same basic components:

  • a goal that is broken down into objectives;
  • a timeframe;
  • a measure of success;
  • and sense of realism and achievability.

Let’s say that you wanted to get a college degree. You’d know that certain activities would be in line with achieving that goal. Such activities would include enrolling in school; buying the appropriate books; attending class; taking notes; studying; writing the exams; and completing the assigned projects. Now, if you do these things consistently over time, you will obtain the degree. You may be happy with that or you may go on to post-graduate studies. If, on the other hand, you don’t show up for class, you only occasionally prepare for the exams, and you intermittently turn in the required projects, you may in fact still get a degree, but it likely will take a lot longer and certainly will not be as rewarding as the focused approach. In fact, it may be so frustrating that you drop out. This truly is the only way you can fail at school or with fitness or with most things in life: You quit.

The fundamentals of being in great shape are the same fundamentals of any worthwhile project:

  • apply energy;
  • show up;
  • do the right thing;
  • avoid the wrong things;
  • and be consistent.

See you at the beach!
