Steps or Giant Leaps
As summer days drew
to a close this year, I found myself feeling not quite
satisfied and at loose ends. I recognized that
uncovering the cause of these feelings would require me
to stop and take note, but I was willing to give these
sluggish feelings the attention they deserved.
My heart and head had been sending distinct messages,
and it was time for me to listen.
For
the past three years, I
have worked hard to help clients decide what they needed
to achieve balanced lives while my own schedule has been
primarily devoted to my career. I adore
what I’m doing, and have passionately answered the
call to support women, but
eating quick meals while on the road or before returning
to my desk have taken their toll on my health.
Once I became
still and truly focused on what was missing, the answers
immediately came forth—and they were so
easy to accomplish!
I acknowledged
that I desperately need
a little exercise, a better diet, vitamins, and morning
meditations.
Soon,
the practice was set into motion, and can you guess how
much “extra” time my new healthier regimen
requires? Fifteen minutes
a day: that’s all! That’s what I call taking
baby steps—adding a few small achievable goals to
your life! Taking those few minutes every
morning for meditation and exercise works easily into
my schedule. The vitamins stay on my desk—a
place I’m certain to see them. And creating a healthier
menu is merely a weekly task since I only shop on Saturdays.
And
what is the payoff for these
fifteen daily minutes of baby steps? I
honestly feel better focused, physically stronger, and
definitely more powerful. If I had identified
a huge goal that required hours of work, I don’t
think I could feel any more satisfied working toward achieving
it. That’s the way it goes—taking
a baby step in one area can feel like a giant leap in
your life!
What baby steps
would feel like giant leaps toward getting unstuck, and
bring you closer to your personal definition of success?
