LIGHT THE NIGHT FOR A CURE THIS FALL
Triangle Supporters Walk For Blood Cancer Research

As the sun begins to fade in the late September sky, the twinkle of illuminated balloons will celebrate and commemorate the lives touched by cancer and light the way for Triangle supporters walking for a cure. Friends, families, supporters and survivors will gather together for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s annual Light The Night® Walk.

Light The Night is a two-mile evening walk where participants carry illuminated balloons – red for supporters and white for survivors. Individual walkers and teams band together raising thousands of dollars for the Society’s mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families. The goal is to raise $275,000 for the Light The Night walks across Eastern North Carolina this fall.

Donald A. Holzworth, founder and CEO of Constella Group, is the 2005 Light The Night corporate walk chair. Holzworth hosted a corporate breakfast in June, where he spoke to executives about his involvement with The Society and encouraged local companies to form Light The Night teams. More than nine Triangle teams have since registered to participate.

Walks will be held at EMC² in Research Triangle Park, Thursday, Sept. 15, and the Bicentennial Plaza in downtown Raleigh, Saturday, Sept. 24. Festivities begin at 5:30 p.m., and the walk starts at 7 p.m. Triangle walk sponsors are: Kerr Cares for Kids Foundation, EMC², LabCorp, Rex Cancer Center, UNC Lineberger Cancer Center, Amgen and Remington Grill.

For more information about Light The Night or to register for one of the walk sites, visit www.lightthenight.org/nce or call Erin DeCarli at (919) 875-8252.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Eastern N.C. Chapter serves patients battling leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma in 49 Eastern North Carolina counties. The Raleigh-based chapter, with a satellite office in Wilmington, raises money for research leading to a cure for blood cancers and to enhance the quality of life for local patients through services such as family support groups, educational programs and financial assistance. For more information about The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, visit www.lls.org or call the Chapter office at (919) 875-8252.
