May is National Mental Health Month
Now in its 50th year, the National Mental Health Association once again celebrates May as the month to focus its annual mental health campaign to help make the lives of others better. Statewide and local chapters of the MHA throughout the US will offer events and training materials to bring a greater awareness to mental health issues.
This month, Kelly Capps, Communication Specialist for the MHA/NC, shares with us some of the awareness events going on throughout the month. Most importantly, Capps introduces us to one of the MHA/NC's newest hires, Nora Hernandez. With the tremendous influx of Hispanics and Latinos moving into North Carolina, Ms. Hernandez is tasked with developing and implementing community outreach programs aimed at serving the Hispanic/Latino communities across the state. Read on to learn more about the MHA/NC and Nora Hernandez.
May is also the month we celebrate motherhood. Some will celebrate with your own mothers while others, such as myself will reflect on the missed life opportunities we didn't have with our mother for a variety of reasons. In any scenario, I hope you will take the time to wish your own mother, a neighbor, or even a coworker, "Happy Mother's Day."
Wishing
you all the best,
Paula
